Welcome to the AC_thing Beta!

Thank you so much for signing up to test AC_thing, an iOS and ESP32-powered product for controlling air conditioning systems from any location, even outside the home. Essentially, it attempts to add modern smart functionality to older air conditioners.

AC_thing is a personal project which I’m attempting to take through a mock product design, development and testing process. It’s a complex product in its very early stages and it’s only with beta testers like you that it can work.

So thank you once again and I hope you enjoy your time with the device.

A few things before you start testing…

Downloading the AC_thing iOS App

AC_thing syncs with its own iPhone application. It is currently under the Testflight beta access program. To download it, please visit the invitation link below. You may need to install the Testflight application from the iPhone app store to use it.

Powering AC_thing

Please use a stable power source (such as an AC outlet) to power AC_thing. Devices such as USB hubs can cause issues in delivering sufficient power and can potentially damage the device.

Handling AC_thing

The AC_thing beta hardware is quite fragile. Please handle it with care.

In particular, please follow the below instructions when plugging it in and unplugging your USB-C cable.

Inserting THE USB-C CABLE

When inserting your USB-C cable, please keep your fingers on the front of the box so pushing the cable in doesn’t push it through the front.

Removing THE USB-C CABLE

When removing the USB-C cable, place your thumb and finger on either side of the USB-C port for leverage to avoid tearing it out of the box.

About Your Setup Code

During setup, you will be asked for a four character code. This can be found on the bottom of your AC_thing. Please don’t share this code with anyone.

Damage

If any of the LEDs become pushed into the box, open it up from the top and try to poke the LED back through the hole.

If there is more serious damage or you’re not sure how to resolve an issue, please get in contact with me via the group links below.
